The 7th Annual TRANSPORT (Translational Program of Health Disparities Research Training) Symposium, held on March 22, 2024, with the theme “Advancing Health Equity Research: Building Partnerships between Academia, Community, and Government,” marked a significant milestone, celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Brooklyn Health Disparities Center and attracted more than 150 attendees who participated both in person and via livestream.

The symposium’s panels, a critical part of the program, focused on different partnerships: Academic-Government, Academic-Community, and Academic-Academic, aiming to address barriers and foster collaborations to advance health equity. Overall, the symposium highlighted a collective commitment to advancing health equity through meaningful partnerships and innovative approaches to research and policy.

Keynote speaker Michelle Morse, M.D., MPH, Deputy Commissioner for the Center for Health Equity and Community Wellness, and the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s inaugural Chief Medical Officer, presented, “Was the Pandemic a Portal Towards Health Justice? Progress and Backlash in Our Current Moment.” She discussed the role of political, social, and economic factors in shaping health outcomes during the pandemic.
